Wake-up Call: Revisit our traditions and practices

1.0 Introduction

As one who was raised and educated in purely catholic doctrine and ways, I can personally attest to my question of it. When I started studying Scriptures on my own, I documented so many things in Scriptures that are contrary to Roman Catholic Church (RCC) teachings, then and more today.

I’m old enough to have watched how different our church teachings are now from then. So from the days of wearing our heads covered (women), abstaining from non-vegetarian food on Fridays or during lent season, women with no place on the altar during mass, no civil deacons to the present day….without even looking at Scriptures, one should question ….who had its right? Why the needed change?

Our God never changed, He was same in the beginning, same is today, and will remain same for ever. Then why these changes? Our leadership of humans, thinking they have powers equal to that of God Himself, is frightening all by itself.

Either we had a wrong beginning or we have diluted and adopted the belief system through our pagan traditions and wrong practices.

I personally believe, the beginning was not wrong, because it was initiated by the people [apostles] who were directly called and selected by Yeshua the Messiah himself.  They had left everything to follow him and lived with him for almost 3 years. Their actions were purely based on the Scriptures and teachings of Yeshua.

Let us take few examples how Satan comes and takes away the words of God. If we don’t have strong hold on the Scriptures, then Satan manipulates them to confuse us. Yeshua told the parable of the four soils in Mark 4:1–9.

In it, the seed of the word of God is sown, and some falls on the path and birds quickly take it away. He explains in verse 15, “Satan immediately comes and takes away the word which was sown in them.” Satan snatches the word because he hates faith which the word produces (Romans 10:17).

Often we are led to believe that Satan merely deceived Eve with the statement that “You will not surely die?” in Genesis 3:4. But we neglect the cleverness and cunning that God indicates that the serpent had in Genesis 3:1.

Note also that the exchange seems to suggest that Eve may have been willingly led. That is, she had already changed what God had said. If we take a closer look, the serpent argued against Eve with an extremely clever ploy.

He went back and argued against her incorrect words using the phraseology that God used in Genesis 2:17. This, in a deceptive way, used the proper sense of die that God stated in Genesis 2:17 against Eve’s mistaken view. Eve made three mistakes in her response:

  • She added the command not to touch the fruit: “nor shall you touch it.” This seems to be in direct contradiction with the command of Adam to tend the Garden (Genesis 2:16), which would probably constitute touching the tree and the fruit from time to time. It also makes the command from God to be exceptionally harsh.
  • She omitted that God allowed them to freely eat from every tree. But she plainly said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the garden”. This makes God out to be less than gracious.
  • She amended the meaning of die. Let me explain. The Hebrew in Genesis 2:17 is “die die” (muwth–muwth), which is often translated as “surely die” or literally as “dying you shall die,” which indicates the beginning of dying—an ingressive sense. In other words, if they had eaten the fruit, then Adam and Eve would have begun to die and would return to dust (which is what happened when they ate in Genesis 3:19). If they were meant to die right then, Genesis 2:17 should have used muwth only once as is used in the Hebrew meaning dead, died, or die in an absolute sense, and not beginning to die or surely die as die-die is commonly used. What Eve said was “die” (muwth) once instead of the way God said it in Genesis 2:17 as “die-die” (muwth–muwth). So she changed God’s word to appear harsher again by saying they would die almost immediately.

This was very clever of Satan—using God’s Words against her to deceive her. This is not an isolated incident. When Satan tempted Jesus (Matthew 4:1–11), Jesus said, “It is written” and quoted Scripture (Matthew 4:4).

The second time, Satan tried quoting Scripture (i.e., God) deceptively, just as he had done to Eve (Matthew 4:5–6). Of course, Jesus was not deceived, and corrected Satan’s twisted use of Scripture with a proper use of Scripture (Matthew 4:7).

Because of Eve’s mistaken response of God’s command, it was easier for her to be deceived by Satan’s misuse of what God had said. Another point that can be brought out about Eve was her adoption of Satan’s reduction of “LORD God” to simply “God” in Genesis 3:3.

This mimicked the way Satan addressed God when he questioned Eve in Genesis 3:1. Satan had degraded God by not using the term God had used in Genesis 2:16–17 and Eve followed suit. To know more, read THE TEMPTATIONS OF EVE AND JESUS.

While it is intriguing to think about the serpent’s appearance and it is important to consider the ways that the devil works (2 Corinthians 2:11), a far more important concern is how he was able to deceive the first woman and how Satan continues to tempt people to doubt the Word of God today.

Just as in Genesis 3:1 where he led Eve to question the reliability of God’s statements (“Did God really say . . .”), if we don’t have a solid foundation in the word of God & a small word like bottles causes us to doubt, it will grow, to bigger words & push us away.

Our problem is we don’t know Scripture well enough and rarely hear verses quoted accurately and in context. Instead, we hear, “Doesn’t the Bible somewhere say something like…?”

This amounts to bits of out-of-context verses paraphrased and strung together like a necklace, supporting presuppositions contradicting what Scripture says in the plainest of language elsewhere. To know about the benefits of reading the Bible, read WHY SHOULD WE READ THE BIBLE?

I was born and brought up in the catholic denomination. I can testify [coz’ during my 10 years of foundation stage i.e. 2nd Std. to 12th Std. I was brought up with nuns and priests, and attended the Holy Mass and evening prayers almost on daily basis i.e. 365 days X 10 Years] that most of us don’t read the entire Bible.

You won’t believe, I never read the complete 66 Books of the Bible (from Genesis Chapter 1 to Revelation Chapter 22) till the age of my late 30s. Some of us read only the New Testament or few verses from the Bible.

But majority of us never read the Bible at all. When we go to church on Sundays, we don’t carry our personal Bible [even some of us don’t have the personal Bible or we kept it somewhere we don’t remember].

If someone has the Bible, s/he has the practice to put it on her/ his bed but never read it and think that it’ll protect her / him from the evil spirits. In the church, we listen the regular and Gospel readings from the Bible, and that is the only source of information to know the Scriptures.

We believe that if we are born in a Christian family, we call ourselves follower of Yeshua [it doesn’t matter whether we are following the teachings of the Scriptures or not].

Even we don’t know how the pagan traditions and practices are entering or already entered into the church. If we don’t read the Bible or read only the New Testament, we’ll not understand the depth of Satan’s plan, and we will be deceived by him easily.

2.0 God’s Commandments Versus Our Traditions and Practices

2.1 Commandment

In Exodus 20:1-3 & Deuteronomy 5:6-7 we read, “And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

2.1.1 Tradition and Practices 1: The Pope is referred as “Our Lord God, Jesus Christ, etc.”

  • In 1302 Pope Boniface said this in a letter to the Catholic Church [Pope Boniface VIII, Unam Sanctam (Rome: 1302)]:

“Furthermore, we declare, we proclaim, we define that it is absolutely necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff.”

  • In 1512 Christopher Marcellus said this to Pope Julius II:

“Take care that we lose not that salvation, that life and breath which thou hast given us, for thou art our shepherd, thou art our physician, thou art our governor, thou art our husbandman, thou art finally another God on earth.”

[Reference: Christopher Marcellus addressing Pope Julius II during the Fifth Lateran Council which began in 1512, as quoted in Alexander Hislop, The light of prophecy let in on the dark places of the papacy (London: William Whyte and Co., 1846); and Letters between a Catholic and a Protestant on the doctrines of the Church of Rome originally published in Borrow’s Worcester Journal (Worcester Journal, 1827)]

  • The Gloss of Extravagantes of Pope John XXII says this:

“But to believe that our Lord God the Pope the establisher of said decretal, and of this, could not decree, as he did decree, should be accounted heretical (emphasis added).

[Reference: The Gloss of Extravagantes of Pope John XXII, Cum. Inter, title 14, chapter 4, “Ad Callem Sexti Decretalium”, Column 140 (Paris, 1685). In an Antwerp edition of the Extravagantes, the words, Dominum Deum Nostrum Papam (“Our Lord God the Pope”) can be found in column 153]

  • Cardinal Sarto, who became Pope Pius X in 1903 [Publications of the Catholic Truth Society Volume 29 (Catholic Truth Society: 1896): 11], said this:

“The Pope represents Jesus Christ Himself…”

  • In 2004, Bishop Patrick Dunn of Auckland (Zenit, September 20, 2004) said this:

“It seems that Pope John Paul II now presides over the universal Church from his place upon Christ’s cross.”

2.1.2 Cross Reference Scriptures

Exodus 15:11 says, Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?”

1 Samuel 2:2 says,There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”

Jeremiah 10:6 says, Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O Lord; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.”

2.1.3 Tradition and Practices 2: The titles used in church order hierarchy system equate themselves to “Our Lord God, Jesus Christ, etc.”

The Pope as “Holy Father”

Cardinal as “Your Eminence”

Archbishop as “Your Grace”

Bishop as Your “Excellency / Lordship”

Priest as “Father”

  • Pope John Paul II [Pope John Paul II, Crossing the Threshold of Hope (New York: Alfred A. Knoff. 1995): 6.] wrote that names like “Holy Father” are applicable to the Pope, even though calling him that is counter to the Gospel:

“Have no fear when people call me the “Vicar of Christ,” when they say to me “Holy Father,” or “Your Holiness,” or use titles similar to these, which seem even inimical to the Gospel.”

  • In 1996 Pope John Paul II [Pope John Paul II, Vita Consecrata (March 25, 1996):] also gave his ascent to calling the Pope “Lord” and “Christ on earth”
  • The Catholic book, “My Catholic Faith” which is based on the Baltimore Catechism, on page 251, says, “The Pope can make and unmake laws for the entire Church; his authority is supreme and unquestioned. Every bishop, every priest, every member of the Church is subject to him.”

2.1.4 Cross Reference Scriptures

In the Bible the term “Holy Father” is used only once, and was used by Yeshua [Jesus] in John 17:11.

It says, “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.”

1 Samuel 2:2 says,There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.”

In Matthew 23:9-12 Yeshua [Jesus] says, And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”

2.2 Commandment

In Exodus 20:4-5 & Deuteronomy 5:8-9 we read, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;”

2.2.1 Tradition and Practices 2: Graven images [statues, pictures & symbols] of God, Mediators, etc. and worship them [burn candle, incense sticks [censors], bow down, kneel down, adore them, etc.]

Statues: We are in practice of graving statues of Jesus, Cross, Mary, Angels, Apostles & Saints, etc. from precious metals, stones & woods; and putting them in the worship places, including in churches, chapels, schools, hospitals, offices, other public places as well as in our homes.

We burn candle, incense sticks, bow down, kneel down, offer prayers, candle, money, fruits, flowers, etc. In short, we perform all sorts of worship & adoration activities, which are restricted in the Bible.

Pictures: We are not limited to statues only, we also started making or painting images of Jesus, Trinity God, Cross, Mary, Angels, Apostles, Saints, etc. and performing all sorts of worship & adoration activities as mentioned above, which are restricted in the Bible.

Symbols: Further, we are not limited to statues & images, we also brought down to our LORD God on the materials which were associated to Jesus or saints, such as cross, scapulars, rosery, lockets, medals, etc. and performing some of the worship & adoration activities as mentioned above, especially adoration of cross on “Good Friday”.

Our priests literally fall down on their face to the wooden cross and perform all sorts of worship and adoration activities. We follow similar kinds of traditions and practices in our other festivals as well.

We need to revisit the scriptures and find out that our salvation has come through the Blood, Death & Resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah or through cross, nails, crown of thorns & shroud of turin? During the period of Yeshua, the region had mainly two types of traditions for the capital punishment (death penalty) to victims– first, stoned to death by Jewish tradition and second, crucifixion (tied or nailed to a large wooden beam and left to hang until eventual death from exhaustion and asphyxiation) by Roman tradition.

Since Yeshua was handed over to Romans (so called Gentiles at that time) they opted their tradition for the capital punishment, which was also prophesied in Psalm 22, 34; Isaiah & Zechariah 12:10. To know more about the consequences of worshipping the creation, read WORSHIPING THE CREATION AND DEPRECIATING THE VALUE OF MANKIND.

2.2.2 Cross Reference Scriptures

Some of the Scriptures about Idol worshipping:

Leviticus 26:1 “Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God.”

Psalm 115:4-8 “Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not: They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.”

Isaiah 46:5To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?”

Isaiah 46:6-10 “They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he maketh it a god: they fall down, yea, they worship. They bear him upon the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he standeth; from his place shall he not remove: yea, one shall cry unto him, yet can he not answer, nor save him out of his trouble. Remember this, and shew yourselves men: bring it again to mind, O ye transgressors. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:”

Jeremiah 10:1-25Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good….”

In Daniel 3:7-12 we read, “Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever. Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.”

Matthew 4:8-10 “Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”

Romans 1:25 “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.”

Revelation 9:20-21 “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”

What the Scriptures say about Mediators:

John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”

Acts 4:12 “Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Hebrews 9:15 “For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

John 14:6 “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Galatians 3:20 “A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one.”

2.3 Commandment

In Exodus 20:8-11 & Deuteronomy 5:12-15 we read, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

2.3.1 Tradition and Practices 1: Observing the Sabbath

Majority of us don’t observe the Sabbath as per the LORD command us to observe.

Isaiah 58:13-14 says, “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”

Moreover, most of our social development organizations have a 30 days working policies [i.e. 24X7] and are donor driven. So, we don’t have any special day for the God. Most of us say that all 7 days are created by God and are equally important, so we should remember Him every day.

That is fine to remember and pray to Him every day. But we must keep in mind that if all the days are equally important, then why God sanctified only the 7th Day and commanded us to keep His Sabbath Holy? There must be some reasons behind it.

2.3.2 Tradition and Practices 2: Changing the Sabbath Day

  • John Cardinal Gibbons, The Catholic Mirror, December 23, 1893, says:

“Reason and sense demand the acceptance of one or the other of these alternatives: either Protestantism and the keeping holy of Saturday, or Catholicity and the keeping holy of Sunday. Compromise is impossible.”

  • Sentinel, Pastor’s page, Saint Catherine Catholic Church, Algonac, Michigan, May 21, 1995 says:

“Perhaps the boldest thing, the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century. The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday. ‘The Day of the Lord’ (dies Dominica) was chosen, not from any directions noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power. The day of resurrection, the day of Pentecost, fifty days later, came on the first day of the week. So this would be the new Sabbath. People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically became 7th Day Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.”

  • The Catholic Universe Bulletin, August 14, 1942, p.4 says:

”The Romans Catholic Church changed the observance of the Sabbath to Sunday by rights if the divine, infallible authority given to her by her founder, Jesus Christ. The Protestant claiming the Bible to be the only guide of faith, has no warrant for observing Sunday. In this matter, the Seventh-day Adventist is the only consistent Protestant.”

  • Priest Brady, in an address, reported in the Elizabeth, NJ ‘News’ on March 18, 1903, says:

“It is well to remind the Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists and all other Christians, that the Bible does not support them anywhere in their observance of Sunday. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day observe a commandment of the Catholic Church.”

  • C.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons, Nov. 11, 1895, says:

“Of course, the Catholic church claims that the change was her act. And the act is a MARK of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters.”

  • Catholic Record, September 1, 1923, says:

“Sunday is our MARK of authority…. the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.”

2.3.4 Cross Reference Scriptures

The Scriptures says that the Sabbath will remain on the 7th Day i.e. on Saturday itself. Jews have not changed their Sabbath observation on the 7th day. In the end times they will build up the Third Temple as mentioned in the Ezekiel 45 & 46 chapters.

They will still be keeping and make offering on Sabbaths. And as the Scriptures says, all Jews will be saved. Moreover, Isaiah 66:22-23 & Revelation 22:14 say that the Sabbath will be observed in a new heaven and a new earth as well for ever.

Hebrews 4:1-11 “Let us fear therefore, lest at any time by forsaking the promise of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to be deprived. For unto us was the Gospel preached as also unto them: but the word that they heard, profited not them, because it was not mixed with faith in those that heard it. For we which have believed, do enter into rest, as he said to the other, As I have sworn in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter thereinto, and they to whom it was first preached, entered not therein for unbelief’s sake: Again he appointed in David a certain day, by Today, after so long a time, saying, as it is said, This day, if ye hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not after this have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, hath also ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us study therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of disobedience.

Ezekiel 46: 1-4 “Thus saith the Lord God; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened. And the prince shall enter by the way of the porch of that gate without, and shall stand by the post of the gate, and the priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall not be shut until the evening. Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the Lord in the sabbaths and in the new moons. And the burnt offering that the prince shall offer unto the Lord in the sabbath day shall be six lambs without blemish, and a ram without blemish.”

Isaiah 66:22-23 “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.”

Revelation 1:10 “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,”

Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

2.4 Commandment

In Leviticus 23, “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts…..Sabbath, Passover, Unleavened Bread, Harvest (Firstfruits), Pentecost, Trumpets, Atonement & Tabernacle

2.4.1 Tradition and Practices 1: Except Pentecost none of the Commanded Feasts are observed or celebrated

Pentecost is celebrated every year, which is also considered as the birth of the Church. However, we don’t follow the God’s instructed calendar.

It differs from the Jewish calendar who are following it from generations. When Yeshua was on this earth, he followed the same calendar. He never introduced the new calendar for the celebrations of commanded feasts. However, as per our convenient we changed the calendar and timing for its celebration.

2.4.2 Tradition and Practices 2: Celebration of non-biblical Feasts

We brought N numbers of non-biblical feasts in the church, such as Christmas, Easter, Feasts of Saints, Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Ash Wednesday, Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Commemoration of all the faithful departed and so on….

All of them are brought into the church from our pagan origin tradition and practices. To know more about the entrance of pagan traditions and practices, read WHY TRUE CHRISTIANS SHOULD NOT CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?

3.0 Conclusion

This is a wake-up call for all of us and our organisations. If we’re true Christians, we can’t be a secular person or organisations in our belief and practices. Our foundation should be based on the words of God and His commandments rather than our traditions and practices. God’s commandments are autocratic in nature.

Revelation 21:8 says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

So, we don’t have the option to have the democratic decisions and practices in our belief and practices. If we disobey God, it is Satan that is working in us and we belong to him. We either belong to God or to Satan. There is no third choice.
